Woods finishes with lackluster 71 on BMW Monday

Tiger Woods
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Tiger Woods seemed out of sorts from the start Monday, arriving to the first tee at Conway Farms with just two minutes to spare.

Then came the back tightness. And then the missed putts.

When it was over, Woods slogged his way to an even-par 71 that left him in a tie for 11th at the BMW Championship. Just four shots off the lead to start the day, he finished seven behind winner Zach Johnson (65).

“It was not a very good putting week,” said Woods, who had five three-putts. “It’s just one of those weeks where I just didn’t have it.”

Woods set the tone for the day with a 6-foot par miss on the opening hole. He three-putted from 13 feet on No. 5 and botched a 3-footer on 11 that ended his comeback chances. He also mixed in three birdies.

For the day, he hit all but one fairway, 13 greens and took 31 putts.

The consolation for Woods is that he moved back to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup points standings, giving him the best mathematical chance to win the end-of-year $10 million prize.

“We’re jockeying for position to be in the top 5, and I was able to accomplish that,” he said.
